Cat History

Do you believe in witches? Well for many many years cats have been viewed as strange animals with mystique powers within them and great secrets. This belief has been carried on for centuries and they have been feed continuously mostly in modern Europe and England. It is folklore and lore, but also some truth.

During the witches’ trials in the 13th century, people associated cats to witches and that witches could turn into a hare or a cat. The use of this? So they could go to the celebrated sabbat and have a meeting with the Devil as with other witches. During the decades of 1900s they were called “nuggets”, “creepy-crawling things that witches kept all over them”, (from the scholarly publication Folklore).

We can see that during ages cats have been selected as sacred. A good example is in Egypt, where Egyptians made statues, carvings and cats were mummified. The Egyptians believed in a goddess called Bast, which was part human and part feline. Bast is daughter to Osiris and Isis. Egyptians offered her sacrifices and took special care of cats to ensure all her blessings.

Consequently, for many years cats have been mistreated, killed and hated. They have been seen as carriers of the evil.

What is a Familiar?

A familiar comes from the belief that minor demons, spirit or imps could take the form of an animal, not only a cat but rat, hedgehog, toad or owl, even a dog. A familiar is a magical character that serves their “human” as companion, servant, intermediary, farmhand and spy. A familiar also offers to his/her witch inspiration as a muse, to write and paint and they could be divinatory beings. The cat is not always black, it comes in different colors and with rare distinctive marks. They are known to be loyal, magical and can communicate with their human.

Also, there was said that Prince Rupert, the Royalist general had a large poodle dog whose name was Boye who went to battle with him during the English Civil War. Boye was known supposedly to have supernatural powers, to be a kind of familiar and the Parliamentarian feared the dog. When the war reached its end the dog was allegedly killed with a silver bullet.

Fact

·         Cats are not devils, imps or demons, cats are great companions and understanding fellows.

·         When a cat has special love to a person or comes to your door and stays that’s a sign that that’s your special familiar.

·         Cats have the unique ability to perceive what we cannot, and see what we cannot see.

·         They have the reputation of being kind of psychics and could see “nonphysical” beings.

·         They can contribute to magic, they can help their human companion have strength in their magic.

·         Cats relieve the house air from negative tension and other negative feelings.

Now a days many witches (male or female) use cats or other pets as familiar. Witches or magicians bless and protect the cat with their collar. They draw in the cats collar symbols of protection as Norse or Celtic origin, like runes. Also, they use natural material to hang from their collar as crystals or stones.

Personal Experience

I have my familiar! My cat was brought to me by my fiancée on September 21. My fiancée told me the cat was a mean fellow but because he knew I loved black cats he brought him to me. The cat scratched everyone but when he saw me he ran to me and began meowing.

Since that day he has been with me and I’ve noticed some strange behavior. When there’s full moon he disappears for three whole days and on the fourth day he comes back happily to greet me. He has some strange marks over his head, some faded square lines, three square lines to be precise and I discovered that when I prevented one time for the usually three days for him to go the lines went away. He’s only playful with me and brings me animals alive! He’s just a happy fellow and I just love him. And his name, well his name is Demon, my one and a half year old black cat. And no, I am not a witch.

Hum, cats are wonderful but make me sneeze, I know my totem animal is a hawk so maybe that has something to do with it...i think a sugar glider would suit me better as a familiar, and i have been looking for one for that purpose for awhile.

I have been an animal lover all my life & my family always had at least one cat if not more. As an adult I had been passed 2 of the family cat's. Yet the one I have now is neither of them. But one my ex that I am meant to remain friend's with had picked her out for me when we had been together. My experience with her is that when I have a distasteful attitude towards someone to an extreme; Well she will not be to nice to that person. Where when I am not sure in how they are & doubt they should of been invited in she reacts. Yet when I am completely comfortable with them, so is she.

Anything is real if you believe in it.

I am a medium who does a lot of spirit work. I have been blessed with a dog who is my little helper. Her name is Bella, and she warns me when there are spirits at my door to visit. My home is sacred ground and is protected. She lets me know when someone is there and allows me to either invite them in or get to bless them away. She is incredible, I am so grateful, she makes my work easier and safer.
